Data providers

Share your data, safely

Government agencies and private organisations are under increasing pressure to release their data.  Data providers may have to allow access to everyone through web portals, or may have to compile reports or provide data to stakeholders for compliance purposes.

The two biggest barriers to providing data safely are

  • Ensuring that private information is protected, and individuals and businesses cannot be identified. This is particularly important when issuing large public data sets, but may also impact the results of smaller research or market surveys.
  • Ensuring that the data is not open to misuse or misinterpretation.  This might include making sure that the data definitions are clear, and that the user is alerted to when there is insufficient data to make strong conclusions from.

With the advent of web 2.0 access data providers have less control over who accesses the data, and how, why and when they access it.

We provide a range of statistical and technical communication to help data providers ensure that their data is clear, safe and reliable.
